AN An Analysis of Flouting Maxims in the Second American Presidential Debate

Language becomes the prior instrument in communicating ideas, feeling, or opinions. In real communication, those four maxims are not always being fulfilled by speakers. When speakers do fulfil maxim means that they flout maxim. There many flouting found communication. Debate can be an interesting object for seeing phenomenon. One of famous debates is American presidential debate 2008, especially second part debate. this ocassion, there guests who had never voted election before. The aim study to investigate flouted utterances and answer question about how two candidates maxims. This conducted using qualitative approach since writers analyze script taken from website www.debates.org. performed quantity, relevance, manner. Key words: debate, maxim, good communication
